Before the Blues

( listen)

She don't want to hear all the things she means to you
She don't want to know where you've been or with who
You used to be such a mystery
Now you're like yesterday's news
That's the way it feels before the blues

Words of love you share
she can't help but ignore
Things you used to do
don't make her laugh anymore
You've tried your best lines and behavior
and now you've got nothing left to use
and that's the way it feels before the blues

When the lovelight leaves her eyes
and her restlessness she can't hide
and you feel like you've got no pride to lose
Only hoping for one night more
Waiting patiently by her door
That's the way it feels before the blues

She turns her face from you
when you look at her that way
She can't remember plans that you two made yesterday
and you don't see what she really needs
'cause it's safer to stay confused
and that's the way it feels before the blues

When the lovelight leaves her eyes.........

Artist's Note

As a kid, I used to love Johnny Rivers. His singing connected with me in such an emotional way from a real early age. This song reminds me a little of his kind of song. It's about the times when you know it's over, but you can't admit it.
