We had never played "The Last Time" before the moment we recorded it. We were warming up to do "When the Carnival Ends" when I started playing this traditional gospel tune (the source for the early Rolling Stones song of the same name). Fortunately, Lenny DeRose, who was engineering, had the red recording light on. Rehearsing this song with the Fairfields before they added their parts was 12 of the greatest minutes of my life.
