You Are Here

(listen)

When my false hopes they have fallen
and I feel wasted, in the way
Seeing double, maybe triple
my feet are stranded in the clay
When my mind's eye
seems so worthless
and the light is burning low
and the memory of tenderness
flies like the April snow

and I'm far from your arms
but never too far for your hands
hold my burdens
guide my feet along the cool sand
when I'm walking in danger
free the faith to fight the fear
It's the middle of this great universe and you are here

When every raindrop in the barrel
burns up as it falls down
and every swig from every bottle
knocks me clean off the ground
and that joke that seemed so funny
now can only bring a tear
and the armour the I walked in
has crumbled and disappeared

and I'm far from your arms...

Artist's Note

A friend of mine has a T-shirt that has a picture of the solar system and an arrow pointing to the Earth that says, "You Are Here." Sometimes it helps having a map.
